It is generally believed that business communication is the process through which employees, customers, and management communicate to achieve organizational goals effectively.

However, there are certain factors that could lead to blunder during the communication process. You must avoid the followings during business communication:

  1. Do not interrupt people, especially when they are talking or making their points known. If you do, it hampers their thought process. Interrupting is also considered as being rude and shows a lack of social intelligence. Rule of discourse requires you to make it a conversation and not a monologue.
  2. Do not criticize your interlocutor publicly. Mark you, no one is always right. Give room to listening and appreciating other person’s views. And if you feel your point is valid, tender it in an unoffensive manner. Let your interlocutor see reasons for you to make such a statement or claim.
  3. Do not display negative body language. In communication, this is a paralinguistic feature. You never can tell how knowledgeable the person you are talking to is, especially when this person is a customer. He might read the bodily reactions and withdraw his loyalty from your company just because of your attitude.
  4. Do not prioritize your cell phone or other electronic devices over people when talking to anyone. It indicates disrespect, and dishonour to the person you converse with and yourself inclusively.
  5. Do not shout or talk too fast when talking to someone physically or via phone conversation. If you talk too fast, the other party may miss an important point and/or not understand the point you are making. Use the normal pitch and rhythm during a conversation.

In all, effective communication portrays professionalism; it shows self-confidence and builds relationships. It helps decrease stress and creates a greater acceptance of oneself and others. When what we want to say is interpreted correctly by the recipient of the message, effective communication is achieved
