When Bola and I were posted to Lagos for NYSC, I was nervous because I didn’t know what to expect, and all that was ringing in my head at that time was the saying “It is not easy to get a good job in Lagos” … I hear that a lot from my neighbour who just relocated from Lagos to Akure at the time.
I love Lagos so much and I have always wished to live there but the fear of not getting a good job after my NYSC overwhelmed me.
When we arrived at the NYSC camp at Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos, for some minute I forgot my worries and started reminiscing on the beautiful stories my neighbour told me about Lagos but still couldn’t forget the horrible saying about acquiring a job in Lagos.
The Camp was interesting although, initially, it was boring and frustrating having to wake up at 4 am with the annoying sound of the bugle, however, towards the end, it was gripping and we didn’t want to leave.
Finally, the time came… Yes, it was time to collect our posting letter and head over to our various Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). At this time, I wasn’t really scared about the Post NYSC experience anymore because I gained new knowledge in camp and also made new friends which made me realize that getting a new job wasn’t really the problem, but DO YOU HAVE THE SKILLS IT TAKES TO CONVINCE YOUR EMPLOYER THAT YOU ARE THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB? I was only nervous because I wanted a nice PPA for a start.
Bola got her posting letter before me, Lo and Behold it was a Tech Company; she wanted that badly because she studied Computer Science. I must say that luck was on her side. Unlike me, I was posted to an Orphanage home.
Moreover, my service year was quite awesome because aside from working in the orphanage home, I also took the time to improve myself, learn new skills, and obtain various certifications that helped me stand out in the job market. I advised my friend to do the same but she was so certain that they would retain her at the PPA.
A month to the end of my NYSC, the impossible happened… I got a job and it wasn’t just a job; a good one with good pay. Unfortunately, after NYSC, the Tech Company didn’t retain Bola because they do not retain corps members according to them.
NYSC had ended, and I was working already but there was a problem. My friend didn’t have a job and we had to go job hunting for her. She applied to different companies but whenever she goes for an interview, they always wanted more… more than just a school leaving certificate, more than just the University experience but here she is without no other skill or knowledge… After months of searching, she finally agreed to Upskill, and guess what happened after? You guessed right! She got a job, a good-paying job.
Companies like to hire people that are both well-trained and versatile, and those with a series of skill sets would be preferred over those with only basic skills therefore AUTUSBRIDGE SALES ACADEMY is bringing you the opportunity to upskill and improve your sales knowledge.
